Circa 1987, an American with Welsh heritage and a Welsh speaking Englishman who had lived in Wales, got together with their families on March 1st near Donnelly, Idaho, and thus the Idaho Cambrian Society was born. [since re-named the Idaho Welsh Society]

The following year they were joined by a member from the Treasure Valley, and subsequently all regular meetings since then have taken place in Boise.

Summer picnics took place in the McCall region while the Boise meetings have continued on a monthly basis. For St. David's Day meetings the Society has frequently met at area restaurants and they have been well attended.

In 1994 the Whitney Women's Chorale, John Owen, Shelly Cooper and Carmen Maret returned to Boise from the North American Eisteddfod held in Bellevue, WA, with top awards. A big feather in the Society's cap!

In 2001 the Society brought the Northwest Welsh weekend to Boise with tremendous success.
